Candy Corn Homemade Playdough Recipe
When fall arrives, I automatically reach for the fun orange, yellow, and white candy. Whether it is the classic corn shape or the fun little pumpkins, this candy is a weakness for me. Since I am avoiding sugar and working on eating a healthier Paleo diet, it's important to no longer indulge. What can I do instead? I can make this super fun candy corn homemade playdough recipe and play instead of snacking!
This homemade playdough recipe is a great choice for arts and crafts during fall homeschool lessons. I love knowing my boys can learn something fun while playing, and this is a great option. We can talk about all manner of fall themes, but my favorite would be to spend time going over the reasons leaves change colors. You could even simply have your kids practice reading out loud with their favorite book.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour ( I used wheat flour because that’s what I had on hand)
1 cup salt
1 cup hot water
2 Tbsp. cream of tarter
1 Tbsp. oil-vegetable, canola, olive, whatever is in your pantry
Stir together your dry ingredients.
Add the wet ingredients in and blend.
It will be sticky as it cools, once it has completely cooled down it will be a rough play dough consistency- if you feel it’s too sticky add one teaspoon of flour at a time until it is the preferred consistency.
Separate the dough into 3 equal sections.
Add food coloring to 2 of the sections. Leave one without color for the white part of the candy corn. Add 10 drops of yellow food coloring to one for the yellow layer. Add 5 drops yellow and 3 drops red to the last to create an orange layer. You can play with colors a bit until you get the right shade. Great fall themed books to check out:
