If your kids love sensory play like mine do, they will probably love this slimy changing pumpkin-scented homemade slime. Scented with pumpkin pie spice and amazingly textured, the kids love to stir, scoop, dump, and mix it as it turns from liquid to solid over and over.
Mix up a batch and make it even more fun by scooping out a pumpkin and pouring it inside- it really makes a super fun sensory experience from toddler ages to upper elementary. Admittedly, it is even fun for older kids and adults!
If you have never made homemade slime your kids you will want to try this recipe. It's a fun way to get dirty, without making a huge mess. As kids crafts are always more fun when you can get messy, you know they will love this project. You can easily scoop it up in your hands and it runs through your fingers as a liquid, smack it hard with your hand and it solidifies, and when it dries on your hands you get a powdery substance.
Pumpkin Pie Spice Scented Homemade Slime
Homemade slime is a great science lesson, sensory activity, and just an all-around fun kids craft for you to enjoy no matter your age!
- 2 cups corn starch
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
- red food coloring
- orange food coloring
- medium-sized pie pumpkin
Combine water and cornstarch completely. I like using large glass measuring cups since it is so easy to see how much I have made. This is handy when you have multiple kids and need to pour the results out evenly for them to play with.
Stir in pumpkin pie spice, 3 drops yellow food coloring and 1 drop red. You can continue adding food coloring in these amounts until your desired color shade is reached. If you have orange food coloring, you may want to try it first, but your average packs of food coloring come with just the basic colors, thus the blending needed.
Cut and remove the top of a pumpkin. Make the opening large enough that little hands can go in easily. Scoop out all seeds and fibers if desired- I left some of them in to give more texture to the sensory experience. Kids love the slimy texture of the inside of the pumpkin. Adding our pumpkin pie scented homemade slime to that texture just increases the sensory experience.
Pour the cornstarch mixture into the pumpkin or a shallow bowl. This homemade slime mixture is also great for use in a small shoebox sized plastic box.
Place the pumpkin on an aluminum foil covered cookie sheet for easier cleanup. Add measuring cups, spoons, whisks, and other fun tools like these Curious Chef tools. We love this set and they work wonderfully in all our sensory bins and other play.
This pumpkin pie scented homemade slime is a fun fall kids craft that you will all enjoy. This is ideal for a fall party with kids, or for occupying kids while you work on preparing a holiday meal for your family.
