When you are trying to avoid dairy and grains, it can be tough to find yummy breakfast treats. This Banana Almond Milk is a great stand-alone breakfast, but also a great way to add a bit of flavor to an otherwise bland beverage. Almond milk is really popular for those who have dairy allergies, or who want to increase protein in their diet.
For some people, it is just a bit too bland, though. If you are also trying to avoid refined sugars, this is a great recipe for a yummy almond milk drink that uses natural sweeteners to boost flavor. My boys think of this as a fun shake when I use frozen bananas!
You may choose to use a frozen banana for a soft smoothie with a texture similar to soft-serve ice cream. Or you may go with a ripe fresh banana for thick, natural flavored, and nutrient-packed milk. We added the cup of almond milk to the blender and then broke the banana into thirds. Process on high for a few seconds or up to two minutes. The milk will become thicker and frothy. You’ll want to enjoy right away to fully enjoy the light airy texture.
This banana almond milk is a great way to give your kids a special treat without the guilt. When you use a frozen banana and serve it as a thick shake, it is a great substitute for ice cream or any other favorite dessert. You can even top it with frozen berries, shaved dark chocolate, or chopped nuts and serve as a parfait.
