Easy Homemade French Vanilla Cappuccino Mix

This French Vanilla Mix is the embodiment of that classic coffee shop flavor. It's a blend of sugar, instant espresso powder or ground coffee beans, vanilla extract, and powdered milk. The ingredients are combined in specific ratios to craft an exquisite mix savored by those who appreciate this kind of indulgence.

My homemade variant brings together instant coffee, powdered milk, and instant pudding to compose this simple-to-make drink mix. So why not give it a try? It's the perfect blend to warm you up on cold mornings, and it's also a thoughtful gift for any coffee lover in your life!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of instant coffee
  • 2 cups powdered milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 box of vanilla pudding

Equipment Needed

Mixing Bowl: You'll need a small mixing bowl for this. Every kitchen should have a good set of nesting mixing bowls. This set of metal bowls with silicone lids & stability bases is our set.

Storage Container: I really like using mason jars for storage. You never have to worry about staining or leaching with them…and they look so cute with a ribbon & gift tag!

Decorative Ribbon: You can stick on a label, hang a gift tag, or just tie the jars with a ribbon.

Milk Frother: Mine is built-in to my Ninja coffee machine, but we used to have a handheld electric frother like this.

Coffee Mug: Of course, you need a cute coffee mug. I'm loving these Nordic ceramic mugs.

How to Make French Vanilla Cappuccino Mix

In a sizable bowl, combine all the ingredients until they're thoroughly mixed. Then, transfer the mixture into a jar or any attractive storage container. If you're planning to give it as a present, you can embellish the container with a ribbon or another type of decorative garland to give it a festive touch.

How to Use Your Homemade French Vanilla Cappuccino Mix

When making this drink you will take 2 to 3 tablespoons of the mix and combine it with 8 ounces of water. If you like to have a stronger flavor in your cappuccino, you will want to add more French vanilla mix to the cup. I recommend making sure that you have heated the water well. This makes the mix combine better with the water and makes for easier mixing.

For a creamier cappuccino, you can use hot milk instead. Or do a mix of hot water & then steamed milk on top. I have a milk frother built into my coffee machine, but you can buy a separate one for delicious milk foam for many types of drinks.

What does French Vanilla Taste Like?

If you have never had French vanilla before it tastes like a delicious creamy coffee with an undertone of sweet vanilla. This is going to resemble the type of coffee that is gotten from a cappuccino machine at your local coffee shop or specialty store. Compared to gas station cappuccino, it's going to taste a lot less sweet and more like coffee.

French vanilla, itself, was originally coined for a type of ice cream, but many products, including coffee and coffee creamer, have started using a French vanilla flavor, which is rich, creamy, and has notes of eggy custard.

Does French vanilla have more caffeine than coffee?

When you are making this French vanilla mix, you are adding instant coffee. That means that there is caffeine in the combination. While there is caffeine in the French vanilla mix, it will only have as much caffeine as the instant coffee you use.

Is this French vanilla mix vegan?

The mix is not vegan using traditional ingredients. That is because there is milk powder in the pudding and the powdered milk. However, you can make it dairy-free (and vegan) by using a non-dairy milk powder and dairy-free pudding mix. I have included a recipe below that does not use pudding mix so that you can still enjoy this recipe.

Vanilla pudding substitute

  • 3 tablespoon arrowroot powder
  • 2 tablespoons of vanilla powder (my local organic store carries this)
  • 1/2 cup of Sugar
  • 1 cup of instant coffee

If you are using the vanilla pudding substitute, you will make the powder and the drink itself the same way it is made above.

How to Store

Once you have made this French Vanilla Mix, you want to make sure it is stored properly. To store the mix, you want to keep it sealed in an airtight container. You can keep this powdered drink mix at room temperature. There is no need to store it in the refrigerator. You can keep the mix for up to two months if you store it correctly.

Variations to this Drink

When making this drink, you can add extras to take the drink over the top. You can add in things like chocolate chips, use chocolate pudding instead of vanilla pudding or add things like peppermint pieces from candy canes. What you can do with this drink is endless.
