How to Make Coconut Body Scrub

This one is SO easy! Simply round up all your ingredients, mix well, and put your homemade scrub into your container. I like to mix my liquid ingredients together first and then add the sugar to this one. You can add a little finely diced mint or a couple of drops of green food colouring if you like too!

How to use homemade sugar scrubs?

  1. Wash with your favorite soap and rinse well.
  2. Generously apply the sugar scrub to damp skin, avoiding sensitive areas.
  3. Rub in a circular motion to exfoliate any dead cells.
  4. Leave the scrub on for about 2-4 minutes.
  5. Rinse with warm water or wipe off with a damp washcloth.
  6. Follow up with your favorite lotion or body butter.

How often can I use this coconut sugar scrub?

Generally, I recommend using a sugar scrub 1-3 times a week, depending on your skin type. If it's made with white or coarse sugar, you won't want to do it as often. If you use brown or another softer sugar, you can use it up to 4 times a week. Just remember to moisturize afterward.

Is it safe to put on your face with this scrub?

I do not recommend using this one as a facial scrubs because it uses coconut oil, which is highly comedogenic and will clog your pores. For facial scrubs, I recommend using a non-comedogenic oil like sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil

Who Can Use This Coconut Body Scrub Recipe?

This coconut lime body scrub recipe is great for all skin types. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, just sub that one out for a similar ingredient that doesn't affect you. For example, you can choose a different carrier oil instead of coconut, leave out the peppermint oil, or use another citrus fruit in place of lime.

Obviously, any change you make will result in a different scent & affect the texture, but that's how I discover some of my favourite combinations!

Coconut and Lime Body Scrub Benefits

This tropical coconut and lime body scrub is great for your skin & feels so refreshing!

It removes dead skin cells, adds moisture to the skin, and smells amazing. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties that can help reduce acne. Vitamin E has anti-inflammatory properties and is an antioxidant.

Lime is antibacterial, an antioxidant, and it's high in Vitamin C. Vitamin C has many skincare benefits, including increasing the production of collagen & it can help even out your skin tone.

How to store homemade sugar scrubs

I prefer to store my homemade sugar scrub products in glass containers since most of my recipes use essential oils. If you are worried about it being slippery in the bathroom, you can use one of these spa gloves for extra grip! This scrub will keep for up to three months at room temperature.

I store my unrefrigerated sugar scrubs in our bathroom window so that the sun helps keep them soft. If you don't have a warmer place to keep it, you can run the sealed jar under warm water for a couple of minutes.

Tips for Gifting Homemade Sugar Scrubs:

One of my favorite things about our homemade beauty products is that they are ideal for making into gifts. Whether you plan to give as a Christmas present, birthday gift, or just because, you can easily make an affordable gift using this recipe. Teachers also often love receiving a homemade gift they can use, but make sure to check with them about allergies ahead of time.

Use a Mason Jar with a Pretty Ribbon & Homemade Label for the perfect gift! Tips for Making This Coconut Exfoliating Body Scrub:

This coconut lime body scrub is super easy to make but here are a few tips that will make it easier for you, especially if you've never made a scrub before.

What kind of coconut oil is best for this mojito body scrub?

To get the most benefits from coconut oil, I prefer to use virgin or unrefined coconut oil. Very rarely do I use fractionated coconut oil anymore, because it doesn't have lauric acid, which is where it gets its antibacterial properties.

Should I Melt My Coconut Oil Before Making This Recipe?

I like to soften my coconut oil if it's very hard. In the winter, it can get a bit chilly in our house and my coconut oil turns into a rock. Scooping it out with a spoon and softening it before measuring helps me get a more accurate amount and makes it easier to combine with the other ingredients. I do not melt it though

Can I use another carrier oil?

Coconut oil is a staple at my house. I use it for everything from making my own body products, cooking, homemade salves and lip balms, for personal care, and many other ways. You can use any carrier oil you prefer though for this brown sugar scrub.

Can I use a different type of sugar?

Yes! You can use turbinado raw cane sugar or brown sugar instead of white sugar in this sugar scrub recipe. You might notice that brown and turbinado sugar gives a warmer, richer scent than white sugar does. Because turbinado and white are coarser sugars, you won't be able to use them as often.

Not Into DIY or Making Your Own Body Scrub?

There are a ton of premade body scrubs out there. I recommend picking one made with simple ingredients that doesn't contain microplastic beads.

I like to support small businesses whenever I can and have a few sellers on Etsy favorited.

Which homemade scrub is best?

I think the best sugar scrub is one that leaves your skin feeling silky smooth and smells amazing. I love to change up which recipe I'm using often, but here are some of my favourites!
