Yesterday’s Tragedies

I came home from a homeschool meeting yesterday to learn that another school shooting has occurred   Only this time it was an elementary school.  I've gone through so many emotions since then and two things have really stuck with me: I am incredibly grateful that I homeschool my children & was able to hug them immediately and I have to find a way to reach out to the residents in Newport, Connecticut to show them how deeply sorry I am that they are going through this. When tragedy such as this strikes, our entire country feels the blow.  I don't know any parent that has heard this without wanting to rush home and hug their children and feel sorry for those that will never be able to feel their child's arms wrap around them again.  The idea of such a loss is beyond my ability to comprehend but the very thought of it brings tears to my eyes. For some of us, this will be a signal to make changes to our lives. Maybe spend a few more minutes just playing with our children every day, deciding to homeschool, moving closer to extended family, or mending fences with a loved one.  I would like to encourage everyone to do 3 things over the next month: make an effort to reach out to someone you love but don't talk to nearly enough, get involved in an anti-bully campaign, and donate time, money, or both to a charity of your choice.

The sad truth is tragedies such as this occur on a smaller scale every day. Children are hurt by those that should be protecting them, domestic abuse results in death for far too many, a stranger walks up and attacks someone over a few dollars, families go to bed hungry because they can't afford to put food on the table, people find themselves homeless and hopeless, and more.  While we can't undo the things that have been done, we can try to help others. There is a charity for almost every cause & many take donations are low as $5 online.

I have no clue why this young man choose to commit such a horrendous crime and I have no intention spending time  searching for the theories.  I do know that my time is better spend helping people in every way I can.  I will be taking some time to spend with my children tonight and today I will be back to work, trying to help you save money & improve your quality of living – preferably at the same time.  My children & I will also be looking into ways to get more involved in our local community and look into a pen pal for the boys or even myself.
