When someone at our house gets sick, the first thing I do is turn to my tea/herb cupboard. We try to save OTC and prescription meds for when we really need them so when all of the boys caught a gastro bug this week, I pulled out one of my favorites: Tummy Soothing Mint Tea. This tummy tea tastes great and can be used to help settle an upset tummy while recovering from an illness, stress, etc.
Tummy Soothing Mint Tea
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 handful of fresh mint leaves
Instructions
- Bring water to a boil, using a small saucepan.
- Add the fresh mint leaves.
- Remove from heat & let it steep for about 5 minutes.
- Strain and serve.
Notes
To skip the straining step, use a tea ball! I make enough tea that I have several and really prefer the ones that come with a drip stand. You could also use a tea kettle to boil the water so everything can be done in a mug, if you are drinking it warm. To serve cold (or lukewarm for little kids), you can serve it over ice or refrigerate.
Note: This tea is designed to help soothe an upset stomach. It doesn't address the underlying issue and is not meant to replace proper medical care.

Love m grandma, she made me this tea when I was in a 50 degree drop from where I live to go see her. I drank fresh hot mint tea everyday and I never caught a sniffle. From 100 degrees to 39 in morning to 50 degrees of a high. One day to the next.

I don’t think I could handle a temperature switch like that! When I went to visit my grandparents in the summer, I’d go from 70-90 degrees here to 90-110 degrees there and did fine. Coming back home, I felt cold while all my friends were complaining about how hot it was!
