How to Make Mini Cherry Pies

These are so easy to make! You only need 5 ingredients & a little bit of time to whip up these delicious cherry hand pies!

Start by preheating your oven to 350 F / 175 C.

Then lay out your pie crust.

Using a 3 1/2″ heart-shaped cookie cutter, you should get 8-10 pies from 1 box of crusts.

Cut as many hearts as you can get rerolling scraps as needed.

Line a baking sheet with some parchment paper.

Mix together the egg and milk to make an egg wash.

Place half of the hearts on your baking sheet.

Use egg wash to wet the edges of the hearts.

Place a small amount of the pie filling in the center of each.

Make a small x cut in the center of the remaining half of the hearts.

Place an x heart on top of each filled heart and press and crimp edges.

Brush sealed pie with egg wash and dust with sparkling sugar.

Bake for 14-16 minutes until crust is browned.

Allow to cool.

How do you freeze mini cherry pies?

I love throwing extra pies into the freezer for a guilty treat when the kids are at Nana's. Wrap each pie individually with plastic wrap and place in a freezer bag. I highly recommend freezing BEFORE baking because the texture isn't quite right if you freeze them after baking.

To bake it, remove from the freezer & unwrap. Bake according to original instructions but you will need to add additional time. For these mini pies, bake for about 20-25 minutes from frozen.

Can I make other flavored mini pies?

Yes! The sky is the limit! Just use your favorite pie filling – canned or homemade! We make mini apple pies following this base recipe, using my homemade apple pie filling. We also love these caramel apple hand pies!

How long are these mini cherry pies good for?

You can store any of the mini cherry pies you manage to keep your family from eating right away for about 4 days. Just cool and refrigerate in an airtight container.

Reheat before serving…maybe with some vanilla ice cream or homemade whipped cream!
