Time Management Tips To Accomplish More In Less Time

If you're a stay-at-home mom – or maybe a homeschooling mom or working mom – you know that time management tips are a must.  Some people might not respect your time as much as they should. They might think it's okay to just “drop by” whenever they feel like it because it's not like you have anything better to do than chat with them all day. Right? Right.  These tips will help you to accomplish more in less time.

How to Accomplish More in Less Time

While it's great to set boundaries, it's unrealistic to expect everyone to leave us alone all day to work on what we need to accomplish. The best time management tips are all about learning how to set boundaries, set aside blocks of time where people know your “do not disturb” sign is up, and do what you can to make them understand that you do actually have things to get done around the house. And when that fails, use these tips to help you figure out how to accomplish more in less time.

The early bird gets the worm. Stop sleeping in! I know it feels great at the time, but it's almost always followed by regret. Kind of like that “power nap” that turned in a 2-hour thing – yeah, that. Sleep is great, and it's important for you to get enough sleep each night, but set an alarm and hop out of bed as soon as it goes off. You'll be thankful later, I promise.

Make a list. Write down everything that needs to be tackled today. Then, write down everything you'd “like” to get to today. Don't worry about putting it in any type of order – we'll do that next.

If you're super organized, you can set this out for a week. Baby steps for me, though.  Grabbing a special journal or day planner makes this even easier to manage.

Prioritize your list. Be honest with yourself about what really must be done. Take notes if you need to – know exactly what you want to accomplish with each task you add to the list.

Don't overwhelm yourself! Just stick with a few things that must be worked on today, and then put the other stuff on another page so you can look at it if/when you get extra time.

Tip: Try power hours to get more done in less time.

Eat the frog. You see the item(s) on your list that you hate the most? Yeah, those. Do those first.

Take breaks. Improve your awareness and focus during long projects by taking short breaks. Divide large tasks into smaller ones, and dedicate chunks of time to complete each portion of the task.

Eliminate distractions. Easier said than done, right? But seriously, eliminating as many distractions as humanly possible is a great way to be more productive.  This might be the most powerful of all time management tips.

And finally, my number one tip for accomplishing more things in less time:

Stop multitasking! While you might think you're accomplishing several things at once, you're actually putting less effort into each – which means nothing really gets finished! Sort your to-do list out and work on one task at a time.
